Ex-Mayor: Balfour declaration is a complete lie

London, April 14, IRNA – the former mayor of London criticized British hypocritical policies on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration referring to the declaration as “an example of complete dishonesty.'

Ken Livingstone made the remarks in a recent exclusive interview to IRNA. 

2017 is the centennial of the Balfour Declaration, the 70th anniversary of fragmentation of Palestine and 50th anniversary of the holy city of Qods occupation.

The Balfour Declaration was a letter written in 1917 to Walter Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community and also a British Jewish MP, by the then British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour . 

In the letter, Balfour wrote that the British government “view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object …”

Many believe that the letter was the birth point of the Zionist regime.

However, the declaration which caused numerous sufferings for the Palestinians is invalid based on legal and historical laws and principles.

Meanwhile, British current Prime Minister Theresa May is considering inviting Zionist authorities to London to celebrate Balfour Declaration centennial.

In line with this plan, she has already invited her Zionist counterpart (Benjamin) Netanyahu to London for taking part in the ceremony in October/November while Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the State of Palestine has threatened to sue Britain in the international courts for that.

Abbas also urged that British government should apologize to the Palestinians and recognize the Palestinian autonomous country.

“That was just a lie. You had the British government telling Arabs fighting the Ottoman Empire: come in to our side, we allow you to create an Arab state and at the same time having private deals with Zionists saying we allow you to have that. Balfour declaration is just an example of complete dishonesty,” London’s former mayor told IRNA.

Livingstone recalled that after formation of the Zionist entity, “The first Prime Minister of Israel said it didn’t matter because the old would die and the young would forget. 
“But 3 generations on, people are still living in an appalling conditions in Gaza in refugee camps in other countries in the Middle East. I think we have a duty to say to Israel you got to allow the people you illegally expelled, which was a war crime, to return.”

Livingstone said, “Vast majority of the survivors of the holocaust did not want to go what was in Palestine, they would rather go to America, but the American president wouldn’t allow them in because it would have seen as a vote looser in 1948 election.”
